In the face of growing concerns about air quality, Hong Kong has passed an idling ban to address the air pollution created by the idling of parked cars. The law, which has been in the making for over a decade, was put into effect on December 15, 2011. The ban prohibits parked cars from idling for more than three minutes out of every hour. Those who are caught idling longer than the allowed three minutes face a HK320 fine.
